Gaza’s Health Ministry says the Israeli military has killed at least 37 people and wounded 54 others over the past 24-hour reporting period as it targeted family homes in the besieged and bombarded territory.

Palestinian swimmers Yazan al-Bawwab and Valerie Tarazi are set to jump into the Paris Olympic pool to raise awareness for those suffering hardship in their homeland.
With a big Palestinian flag waving at Nanterres pool, both swimmers prepared the last details for their competitions but said they had their family and friends back in Gaza close in mind.
Tarazi, 24, who will race the 200m individual medley, was born and raised in the US. She told Reuters her heart was broken when watching Palestinians swimming to get aid packages while she was preparing to swim for a medal.
Her team mate al-Bawwab, 24, who will be competing on 100m back, said he will be so proud of carrying his flag during the opening ceremony next July 26, and wished they could focus just on sports. But al-Bawwab said he will use that moment “to show the world that we are human”.
“Whether a medal or not, we already win”, he added.
The swimmers are among eight Palestinian athletes who will take part in the Paris Olympic Games, which get under way on July 26.

(14:30 GMT)More about the protests in Israel
Families of Israeli captives held in Gaza will hold a protest later in the day to call on the government to accept a deal with Hamas to return their loved ones.
The demonstrations, which have happened on a regular basis since the war on Gaza began, have previously seen protesters block highways, set tyres on fire and call for Netanyahu to step down.
As Israel and Hamas continue negotiations to come to an agreement on the points of a ceasefire deal, pressure has increased on the Israeli prime minister to accept a deal that will return captives to their families.
This month, protesters with megaphones and banners demonstrated outside the houses of a number of ministers and coalition lawmakers.

On Friday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Israel and Hamas were inside the “10-yard line” and close to agreeing on a ceasefire that could see the return of captives and a cessation of hostilities.

Hundreds of mourners have marched in a funeral procession for a 20-year-old Palestinian who was killed by Israeli forces in Beit Ummar near Hebron in the occupied West Bank.
Ibrahim Zaqeq was fatally shot in the head during a raid on the town that led to confrontations. The Israeli army opened live fire on Palestinians and also used stun grenades and tear gas, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa said.
Zaqeq had been in an Israel prison and was released about a month ago, according to his sister, Adala.

(13:30 GMT)ESSAYIn July came the evacuation orders. We had one option – a bombed Gaza flat
When this war began, I imagined it would last a week or two. Friends living abroad would call to check on us and I’d reassure them that before long our lives would return to normal. There was no need to leave our home of 20 years. My mother has a problem with her spine and struggles to walk. And anyway, it would all be over soon.
Each morning, I’d arrange our house in the al-Fukhari neighbourhood, east of Khan Younis, and prepare breakfast for my parents. Then I’d read the Quran, fill the water tanks by hand and wash our clothes. It wasn’t easy, but at least we were at home.
It was the home we’d moved to when I was 10 years old; the year before, Israel had destroyed our previous home.

(13:00 GMT)Qatar welcomes ICJ advisory ruling
Qatar has welcomed the ICJ’s advisory opinion on the unlawful Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, saying that Israel is “under obligation to end its illegal presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and East Jerusalem”.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry stated that the ICJ’s opinion “includes the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, as the court considered that they constitute one territorial unit, whose unity, continuity, integrity, and respect must be preserved”.
“The Ministry reiterates the State of Qatar’s support for the position of the court and its call to all states and international organizations not to recognize or support illegal Israeli practices,” it added.
“It also stresses the need to work together to end the Israeli apartheid occupation, recognise the State of Palestine within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to fully achieve the right of return of Palestinian refugees.”

(12:45 GMT)Gaza ministry warns residents against moving from north to south
Gaza’s Interior Ministry has told residents in northern Gaza the following:
- Israeli forces have used psychological pressure on citizens by broadcasting hundreds of thousands of voice messages via phones, asking them to evacuate their homes and head to the south of the Gaza Strip.
- The (Israeli) occupation is trying to deceive citizens by broadcasting pictures and scenes of displaced people passing through checkpoints, using an illusion that there is no inspection.
- We warn citizens against the lies and deceit of the occupation. We salute the citizens’ steadfastness in their homes.
- The occupation practises the most horrific forms of torture and abuse against the displaced, away from the cameras, executing dozens of them and leaving the injured to bleed to death.
- There are no safe areas in the Gaza Strip, and the occupation is killing citizens, even in the tents of the displaced.
- We call on the international community to intervene urgently and put pressure on the occupation in order to stop the displacement policy it has been practising since the beginning of the war.
